FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about AKURÉ hair, wigs, ordering, care, and delivery.

What type of hair does AKURÉ offer?
AKURÉ offers carefully selected 100% human hair extensions and wigs, including both Raw Hair and Virgin Hair collections.

Our Raw Hair Collection is selected for clients seeking hair with minimal processing, natural variation, and long-term wear when properly maintained.

Our Virgin Hair Collection offers a beautiful, versatile option for everyday wear while maintaining softness, movement, and a natural appearance.

Product specifications may vary by collection, so we recommend reviewing the individual product description before purchasing.
What is the difference between Raw Hair and Virgin Hair?
Raw Hair is minimally processed human hair that maintains much of its natural texture and characteristics. Because raw hair is not manufactured to look completely uniform, slight differences in texture, wave pattern, or color may occur from bundle to bundle.

Virgin Hair is also 100% human hair but may be lightly processed to create a more consistent texture, pattern, or finish.

Both collections can provide beautiful, long-lasting results when properly cared for. The best option depends on your desired look, maintenance preferences, and budget.
How long does AKURÉ hair last?
The lifespan of your hair depends heavily on how often it is worn, styled, colored, and maintained.

With proper care, quality human hair extensions and wigs can be reused and enjoyed over multiple installs.

Raw hair generally offers the greatest longevity when properly maintained, while lace components such as closures and frontals typically require replacement sooner because lace is more delicate than the hair itself.

Treat your extensions as you would your natural hair—gentle handling and proper maintenance will always help extend their life.
How many bundles do I need?
The number of bundles needed depends on your desired fullness, hair length, and whether you are using a closure or frontal.

As a general guide:

Lengths 22 inches and shorter:
- We recommend approximately 3 bundles for a full look.

Lengths over 22 inches:
- We recommend 4 or more bundles for fuller coverage.

Longer bundles contain the same approximate weight of hair but the strands are longer, which can make the bundle appear less dense from top to bottom.

If you prefer an extra-full look, you may choose to add an additional bundle regardless of length.
Can AKURÉ hair be colored or bleached?
Yes. Human hair can generally be professionally colored or customized.

However, bleaching, lightening, chemical processing, and repeated coloring can affect the integrity and longevity of the hair.

For significant color transformations—especially blondes or high-lift colors—we strongly recommend having the hair colored by an experienced professional.

Once hair has been chemically altered, AKURÉ cannot guarantee its original texture, condition, or longevity.
Can I use heat on my extensions?
Yes.

Flat irons, curling irons, hot combs, and other thermal styling tools may be used on human hair extensions and wigs.

We recommend:
- Always applying a heat protectant before styling.
- Using the lowest effective temperature.
- Avoiding excessive or repeated high heat.
- Allowing the hair to rest between heat-styling sessions when possible.

Excessive heat can cause dryness, breakage, and changes to the hair's natural texture over time.
What is the difference between a closure and a frontal?
Both closures and frontals are lace pieces designed to create the appearance of hair growing naturally from the scalp.

A closure covers a smaller portion of the front or top of the head and generally requires less maintenance.

A frontal provides wider hairline coverage and offers greater styling flexibility.

The best option depends on your desired hairstyle, maintenance preference, and installation method.

Please review the dimensions listed on the individual product page before ordering.
What is HD lace?
HD lace is an ultra-thin lace material designed to blend closely with the appearance of the scalp when properly installed and customized.

Because HD lace is extremely delicate, it should always be handled gently.

Excessive pulling, scratching, over-plucking, adhesive buildup, or over-bleaching the knots can shorten the life of the lace.
Are AKURÉ wigs glueless?
Select AKURÉ wigs are designed for glueless wear, depending on the construction and fit of the individual unit.

Glueless wigs may include features such as adjustable bands, straps, combs, or other secure-fit construction.

A properly fitted wig is important for the most natural and secure glueless result.

Please check the individual wig description for specific construction details.
What is the difference between a Ready-to-Wear Wig and a Custom Wig?
A Ready-to-Wear Wig is created using predetermined specifications and is designed to offer a more convenient purchasing experience.

A Custom Wig is created according to the selections submitted with your order, which may include your preferred length, texture, lace option, bundle quantity, cap measurements, styling preferences, and other available customizations.

Because custom wigs are created specifically for the customer, additional processing time is required.
How do I order a Custom Wig?
Select Custom Wig through our Pre-Order or Custom Wig section and complete all requested selections and measurements.

Depending on the unit, you may be asked to select:
- Hair texture
- Length
- Bundle quantity
- Lace type or size
- Cap measurements
- Parting preference
- Styling preference
- Additional customization options

Please double-check all measurements before submitting your order.

AKURÉ creates custom units according to the information provided by the customer.
How do I know my wig size?
For the best fit, we recommend measuring your head before ordering a custom unit.

Measurements may include:
- Head circumference
- Front to nape
- Ear to ear across the forehead
- Ear to ear over the top
- Temple to temple
- Nape width

Measurements should be taken with your natural hair braided or flattened similarly to how it will be worn underneath the wig.

If you are unsure how to measure your head, please refer to our Wig Measurement Guide before submitting your order.
Can I change my Custom Wig measurements after ordering?
Please contact us as soon as possible if you notice an error in your measurements.

Once construction or customization of your wig has begun, changes may no longer be possible.

Because custom wigs are created according to the specifications submitted with your order, customers are responsible for providing accurate measurements.
How should I care for Straight and Wavy Hair?
To maintain straight and wavy textures:
- Detangle gently from the ends upward.
- Use a wide-tooth comb or extension-friendly brush.
- Wash with moisturizing, sulfate-free hair products when possible.
- Avoid using excessive amounts of oils or heavy products.
- Apply heat protectant before thermal styling.
- Allow the hair to air-dry whenever possible.
- Store extensions or wigs properly when they are not being worn.

For wavy textures, a lightweight leave-in product may be used to help restore the pattern after washing.
How should I care for Curly Hair?
Curly textures require additional moisture and regular detangling.

For best results:
- Detangle the hair while damp.
- Work in sections beginning at the ends.
- Use a wide-tooth comb or curl-friendly brush.
- Refresh curls using water and a lightweight leave-in conditioner as needed.
- Avoid heavy product buildup.
- Allow curls to air-dry or use a diffuser on a low setting.
- Protect the hair at night with satin or silk.

Avoid brushing curly textures while completely dry, as this can disrupt the curl pattern and create unnecessary frizz.
How should I care for my lace?
Lace should always be handled carefully.

To help preserve your closure, frontal, or wig:
- Avoid aggressively scratching or pulling the lace.
- Detangle gently around the lace area.
- Avoid over-plucking the hairline.
- Do not repeatedly over-bleach knots.
- Remove adhesive carefully.
- Avoid applying excessive oils directly to the lace.
- Never pull the wig off without properly loosening adhesive first.

Lace is a delicate material and naturally has a shorter lifespan than the hair attached to it.
Can I swim or work out while wearing my extensions or wig?
Yes, but additional care is recommended.

Chlorine, salt water, sweat, and frequent moisture exposure can cause dryness, tangling, or product buildup.

Before swimming, protect the hair as much as possible and avoid allowing it to become excessively tangled.

After swimming or heavy exercise, cleanse or rinse the hair as needed and allow it to dry completely.

Never sleep with your extensions or wig wet.
Can I sleep in my wig or extensions?
You can sleep in professionally installed extensions, but proper nighttime care is important.

We recommend gently detangling the hair and securing it in a loose braid, ponytail, or wrap before bed.

Always use a satin or silk bonnet, scarf, or pillowcase.

For removable glueless wigs, removing the unit before sleeping whenever possible can help preserve both the wig and lace.
Do I need to wash my hair before installing it?
We recommend installing extensions on clean, properly prepared natural hair.

Bundles may also be gently washed or co-washed before installation if desired.

If you are having your hair professionally installed, follow your stylist's preparation instructions.
What does Pre-Order mean?
A Pre-Order allows you to purchase or reserve an AKURÉ item before it is ready for immediate shipment.

Pre-Order products require additional processing because the hair or unit may need to be sourced, prepared, constructed, customized, or styled specifically for your order.

The estimated processing period will be displayed before checkout or within the individual product description.

Please place your order only if you are comfortable with the stated turnaround time.
How long do Custom Wig orders take?
Custom wigs generally require approximately 7–14 business days, including the applicable processing and shipping period stated at the time of your order.

Because each custom unit requires preparation and construction, turnaround times may vary during periods of high order volume.

Any updated processing information will be displayed on the website when applicable.
How long do Bundles, Closures, and Frontals take to process?
Bundles and HD lace products generally require approximately 3–5 business days for processing and applicable fulfillment unless otherwise stated on the product page.

Processing time and shipping transit time may be separate depending on the item purchased.

Please refer to our Shipping & Delivery Policy for complete information.
Is processing time the same as shipping time?
No.

Processing time is the time required for AKURÉ to prepare, customize, construct, or fulfill your order.

Shipping time begins after your order has completed processing and has been transferred to the shipping carrier.

Selecting expedited shipping does not shorten the processing or production time for an item unless specifically stated.
Will I receive tracking information?
Yes.

Once your order has been prepared and shipped, tracking information will be sent to the email address or contact information associated with your order.

Please allow time for the shipping carrier to update the tracking status after your label has been created.
Can I make changes to my order after it has been placed?
Please review all order details carefully before submitting your purchase.

If you need to request a change, contact AKURÉ as soon as possible.

We cannot guarantee that changes or cancellations can be made once processing, wig construction, customization, or order preparation has begun.
Can I return or exchange hair extensions?
For hygiene and quality-control purposes, hair must remain unused, unworn, uninstalled, unwashed, uncolored, uncut, and unaltered, with all original packaging and security seals intact, to qualify for any approved return or exchange.

Hair that has been opened, installed, styled, colored, washed, cut, chemically treated, or otherwise altered cannot be accepted.

Additional eligibility requirements and time limits are outlined in our Returns & Exchanges Policy.
Are Custom Wigs Returnable?
Because Custom Wigs are created according to the measurements, selections, and customization preferences submitted by the customer, custom orders are final sale unless the item arrives with a verified manufacturing or fulfillment issue attributable to AKURÉ.

Please carefully review your measurements, color selections, length, lace options, and other customization details before submitting your order.
What should I do if there is a problem with my order?
Please contact us as soon as possible after receiving your package.

Include:
- Your full name
- Order number
- A description of the concern
- Clear photos or videos showing the issue

Please do not install, cut, color, wash, alter, or customize the hair if you believe there may be an issue with your order.

Once an item has been altered or installed, we may be unable to properly evaluate the concern.
Will my hair look exactly like the photos online?
We make every effort to accurately represent our products.

However, because human hair is a natural product, slight differences in texture, wave pattern, color, or appearance may occur.

Raw hair in particular may have natural variations between bundles.

Colors may also appear slightly different depending on lighting, photography, and device screen settings.

These natural variations are part of the individual character of human hair and are not considered defects.
